U.S. trial data for the AstraZeneca Covid - 19 Vaccine shows 79% effective


AstraZeneca said a US study was conducted on its COVID-19 vaccine and the advanced trial data shows it is 79% effective.




Currently, in various areas of the world, 13 Covid-19 vaccines have been authorized for use. Even though AstraZeneca's vaccine has been authorized in more than 50 countries, it has not yet been given the authorization to be used on public in the U.S. The U.S. study results were announced on March 22 and it comprised 30,000 volunteers, 20,000 of whom were given the vaccine while the rest got dummy shots. 

The Vaccine shots were given to the people of all age group as a trial, whether it was a young age person or old.

Scientists have been awaiting results of the U.S. study hoping that it will show some positive results and will reduce the stress level of the people of the world, who have been waiting for some cure for this pandemic situation.



Some of the findings from the U.S. study include the ways to find out how are they going to vaccinate each and every person and that too with taking proper precaution. AstraZeneca will submit to the Food and Drug Administration. This Food and Drug Administration, basically an advisory committee will publicly debate the evidence behind the vaccine before the agency decides whether to allow emergency use of the vaccine or not but the regulatory agencies in the Canada and Mexico have given it the green light, and U.S President Joe Biden's two North American neighbours have been pressurizing for more supply of the vaccine to immunize their people. 


In a statement, AstraZeneca said its COVID-19 vaccine had a 79% efficacy rate at preventing symptomatic COVID-19 and was 100% effective in stopping severe disease and hospitalization. Investigators said the vaccine was effective across the people of all ages, be it older people or younger— which previous studies in other countries had failed to establish. Here, We should not forget the pregnant women and Infants as they are more prone to get infected with the virus.


Astrazeneca vaccine recent side effects



Vaccine allow the body to build immunity by activating T and B lymphocytes cells that, respectively, recognize the targeted virus and produce antibodies to combat the virus.

After taking the vaccine, While the body builds the immunity, it is normal for someone to experience minor side effects. 





According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO), common side effects of a COVID-19 vaccine include

  • a fever
  • fatigue
  • headaches
  • body aches
  • chills
  • nausea

Health authorities recognize that each of the 13 authorized COVID-19 vaccines can cause side effects. These are often mild and last for only a few days. They are not unexpected.

In clinical studies with the vaccine, most side effects were mild to moderate in nature and resolved within a few days with some still present a week after vaccination.
